Pardon My Silence

Hey all. Sorry I haven't been better about posting - I just wanted to drop a quick line in the middle of the work day saying that the picture DVDs are in progress. If you don't think you gave me your mailing address, send it along my way.

No real new news on my end other than that. I'll try to be better about posting (ahem, Tyson).

One more thing - While Jeff was recovering from brain surgery and later while dealing with the effects of full brain radiation, he told me about how much he enjoyed getting up in the morning to go running (or walking when the disease was progressing). I've started getting up to run first thing in the morning and, for those of you that know me, that's a big step for me. I'm not exactly a morning person.

I've run a couple of marathons here and there, but rarely with motivation beyond doing it to prove something to myself. I would like to start training for another one, this time in memory of my lifelong friend and with the purpose of raising money for cancer research. I haven't picked out a date or location yet, but if any of you are interested in joining me let me know. My aim is for sometime next Spring. Every marathon that I've ever heard of (with the exception of Boston) also organizes a half marathon on the same day, so don't be scared of the full 26.2 miles.

My goal this time is 3h 10min and I'm going to run for Jeff. If any of you want to join in and help me make a decision on where to run it, I'd love some training partners.

Hey Matt,
I really admire you for wanting to do something like that. I would love to "train" with you for the marathon, but Harmon and I and currently in mode for Montezumas Revenge bike race in Colorado for next year. We talked it over and we don't think we could possibly "downgrade" our training for something like a little 26 mile race. Here's a link, http://www.montezumasrevenge.com/ .

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavour and I will be thinking about you every morning while I have my morning smoke and cup of coffee, I mean my protein bar and energy drink.

I'll do Montezuma's Revenge with you, smack-talker. Think you're ready for a 24 hour race? I've done 'em... on a team... and they're the worst kind of fun you'll ever have. Doing one solo will SUCK, but you'll enjoy that post-race beer more than any other beer you've ever tasted.

You are kidding, right?

I'm sorry.....how long have you known me? The only Motezumas Revenge I'll be doing is tonight after the Mexican lunch I ate from the southside today.

BTW....Harmon is the one who came up with this, but he's being a little wiener about writing anything here. Probably because he can't take the shit that would be dosed out to him. I can take it though.

Now that post-race beer is a damn good idea. Maybe I can start with that and work my way up to that race eventually. No that will never happen.

Matt,
I'm running my first marathon this Sunday! The most I have run in my training has been 17 miles. Do you think I'll make it? Give me some tips for the last 10 miles.

When I saw Jeff last year, I talked to him as well about running and I told him I wanted to come out and run the NYC in a few years. It's a hard race to get into, but if you haven't done the OKC Memorial, it's pretty good. I did the half last year.

I'm taking a month off before I decide if I'll train for a half or another full (depending on how Sunday proceeds), but let me know what other races you are considering. I'm up for any city!

Later, JJ

Matt- my friend just told me that his friends are seeking some runners for the Hood to Coast relay in August. It looks awesome. I'll let you know if I end up joining it and if they need some more help, I'll see if you are interested. It raises money for the American Cancer Assn. Check it out!
